Drama Club
This was the first ever club to be formed in Nabisunsa with the motto, “Towards the Talent summit”
Drama Club made its dramatic debut in Nabisunsa in 1995. Under the leadership of the Late Miss Nyaitera (May Her Soul Rest in Eternal Peace) who couldn’t bear to watch the girls’ talent go to waste. Back in the day, the club was headed by an amazing patron who was assisted by a cabinet of nineteen members, who worked tirelessly to come up with different ideas for the club to be put into action, with a termly subscription of shs. 500 (five hundred shillings) and a membership fee of shs 1000 (One thousand shillings) only, it’s no surprise that the drama club was a major hit in the 1990s. The club took it upon themselves to organize the highlights of first and second term, one being the F1 production and the other, the F5 production which gave the F1 and F5 ladies the opportunity to make their grand premiere into the Nabisunsa community. Additionally, the ladies relished the events that were planned by the club on the remarkable Independence and Women’s Days. The Drama Club sat down and decided to have their own more mature re-make of “Toddlers and Tiaras” on Independence Day by having the famous Africa Night. On this glamorous night, a pageant was held where the ladies dressed in exquisite outfits and were awarded certificates and prizes to students who excelled in different fields or categories.
However impeccable Drama Club was, they still faced harsh battles to get to where they are today. According to the Gazelle, the club struggled to fight against the monotony of items during a production or event that they organized. For those who mastered the sacred of captivating an audience , you understand to wrestle the theatrical demon , that is , a boring production. Another hustle was putting into consideration the diverse interests of the staff members , students and convenience of the performers. Last but not least , ladies and gentlemen , what is a production without a sound system? Unfortunately for the drama club , they had to come up with a spectacular performance without a sound system. We can only imagine the pain they experienced.
We are grateful to the club for making the girls back then feel that their lives really were living through showcasing various items ranging from operas to African traditional dances. It really made a mark on these girls’ lives till date.
