Survey on the Use of Rats in Biology Practical Lessons in Secondary Schools

Senior Five Biology students participate in a Bioscience Skills Workshop conducted by CLARF on 28th March 2026 at the school science block. The highly impactful training enhanced learners’ practical competencies in laboratory safety, handling of biological materials, and exposure to modern bioscience practices. The program was delivered by the Central Laboratory Animal Research Facility (CLARF), a Makerere University–based center under COVAB and supported by the Science, Technology and Innovation Secretariat (STI-OP), dedicated to advancing pre-clinical research and laboratory animal science in Uganda.

Nabisunsa Girls Secondary School emerged the Champions of the 2026 USSSA Kampala Region Qualifiers after defeating Kibuli S.S 50-31 in the Finale. Nabisunsa was dominant from the get-go and managed to secure an easy victory. After the first quarter, they led the game 12-6 and at the halftime break, they led 27-16. Melissa Kisakye and Mpoza Abigail scored 25 of the 27 points that Nabisunsa had in the first half. The third quarter was pure domination from Nabisunsa. They outscored Kibuli 17-2 and took a 2-point lead. At this point, the game was as good as done but Kibuli managed to score 13 points in the final quarter. However, Nabisunsa managed to see out the game with a 50-31 victory. Coming into the final, Nabisunsa had eased past Kitante in a 51-08 victory in the semi-finals. For Kibuli, they had eased past Mengo S.S with dominant 32-07 victory. Melissa Kisakye of Nabisunsa was named the MVP of the tournament.
